STAB BINDING BOOK MAKING

STAB BINDING BOOK MAKING
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Process of Stab Binding: Using an awl or a similar sharp pointed object, the binder stabs holes along the left edge of a book in a straight line or more complex pattern and then sews thread through the holes to both bind and decorate the book. The Japanese Stab Binding produces a book with a spine that does not allow the book to be laid flat. The book cover is made using a decorative piece of coloured paper.
Experimentation for my creative product making.
MY TEMPLATES:
- Using my 8 chosen Liverpool 'River of Light' photos from shoot six:
SOME EVIDENCE FROM THE PRODUCTION:
- Process of cutting the images equally.
- Making the photobook cover
- Making the equal holes for the thread to pass through in the book binder
- Process of beginning to sew through the 4 holes.
FINAL OUTCOME:
- Even though the production process of making the Japanese book-binding photobook was successful through the cutting, measuring and sewing, I had however made the mistake of sewing on the wrong side of the photobook so it now opens up and can view it on the left side which makes it difficult for the photographs to be seen properly. The sewing needed to be on the left side rather than the right, shown in the above picture.
